Horror in short-form usually fails because the viewer can see the budget. A texting story sidesteps that entirely — there is nothing to light, nothing to act, and no monster that has to look convincing. What is on screen is an interface the viewer trusts, and the horror comes from what appears inside it. The most effective videos in this format never show anything at all; they just let a conversation go somewhere it should not, at a speed the viewer cannot control.
The typing indicator is the whole instrument. A reply that arrives instantly is information; a reply that takes four seconds is a threat. Vary it deliberately — quick exchanges early so the rhythm feels normal, then a long pause exactly where the viewer most wants an answer. Silence after a question is stronger than any reply you could write. Set the gaps line by line, watch it back once at full speed, and cut anything that arrives before the viewer has finished being uncomfortable.
Open the editor, write your conversation, and export a video in minutes.
